A Landmark Triumph in Women’s Cricket

In a historic milestone, the Indian Women’s cricket team clinched their first-ever T20I series victory against England, sealing a commanding six-wicket win in the fourth match on July 10, 2025. This triumph gave India an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series, with the final game set to take place in Birmingham on Saturday. The victory marks a significant moment for the "Women in Blue," who had previously beaten England in a one-off T20I in Derby back in 2006 but had yet to win a T20I series against them, home or away.

Spinners Set the Tone

India’s spinners were the architects of this dominant performance, suffocating England’s batting lineup to restrict them to a modest 126 for 7. Radha Yadav led the charge with an economical 2/15, supported by the young Shree Charani (2/30) and Deepti Sharma (1/29), who collectively claimed five wickets. The spin trio struck early, removing England’s openers within the powerplay and maintaining relentless pressure through the middle overs.

England’s stand-in captain, Tammy Beaumont, offered brief resistance with a quickfire 20 off 16 balls, including three boundaries. However, Radha dismissed her, and Charani trapped Alice Capsey leg-before shortly after, leaving England reeling at 93 for 5. India’s sharp fielding complemented their bowling, ensuring England couldn’t recover from the early setbacks.

Explosive Batting Seals the Deal

Chasing 127, India’s openers Shafali Verma (32) and Smriti Mandhana (31) set the tone with a dynamic 56-run partnership. Shafali took on England’s short-ball tactics with confidence, smashing six boundaries, while Mandhana contributed five fours in her fluent knock. Though both fell in quick succession, their aggressive start laid a solid foundation.

Jemimah Rodrigues (24 not out) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (26) then guided India to victory with composure, navigating a boundary-less phase between overs 8 to 14 before crossing the finish line with 18 balls to spare. The chase was a testament to India’s depth and adaptability, capping off a memorable evening.

A Boost Ahead of the World Cup

This series win is a massive confidence booster for India as they prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in England next year. The victory showcases their ability to adapt to challenging English conditions, a critical factor for their World Cup campaign.

“We are really grateful that we were able to do this. I’m really proud of my team for the way we played this series. It was really important to get that momentum, and I’m happy with how everyone contributed,” said Harmanpreet Kaur during the post-match presentation. “We had very good camps back home before coming here. Everybody knew their role, and we executed our plans perfectly.”

A Series to Remember

India’s dominance in this series has been remarkable. They kicked off with a record-breaking 97-run victory in the opener, followed by a 24-run win in Bristol—England’s first-ever T20I loss at the venue. Despite a narrow five-run defeat in the third match, India’s consistency and teamwork have shone through.

With their spinners firing, fielders backing them up, and batters delivering under pressure, India has sent a strong message to their rivals. As they head into the final T20I in Birmingham, the Women in Blue will look to cap this historic series with another commanding performance.
