Hyderabad, August 29, 2025 — The highly anticipated Telugu action drama Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Boyapati Sreenu, has been officially postponed from its original September 25, 2025, release date. The makers announced the delay on Thursday, citing the need for additional time to perfect the film’s extensive post-production, including visual effects (VFX), re-recording, and other critical processes. A new release date is yet to be confirmed, but speculations point to a possible December 2025 or Sankranthi 2026 launch.

Why Was Akhanda 2 Postponed?

The production house, 14 Reels Plus, shared an official statement on X, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a cinematic experience that matches the colossal expectations set by the 2021 blockbuster Akhanda. “For a film of this scale, the re-recording, VFX, and entire post-production process demand meticulous attention,” the statement read. “We are working tirelessly to deliver Akhanda 2 on an unprecedented scale with uncompromised quality, breathtaking visuals, and ultimate theatrical impact.”

The decision also avoids a box-office clash with Pawan Kalyan’s OG, which is set for a grand solo release on September 25, 2025. Industry sources suggest Balakrishna’s move may reflect camaraderie, as both actors share ties within Andhra Pradesh’s coalition government. The postponement allows OG to dominate the Dussehra holiday window, while Akhanda 2 aims for a slot with less competition, possibly December 5, 2025, following the vacancy left by Prabhas’ The Raja Saab.

Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is Balakrishna’s fourth collaboration with Boyapati Sreenu, following their successful ventures Simha, Legend, and Akhanda.
