Hollywood heartthrob Tom Bateman is set to star opposite Lili Reinhart in the highly anticipated romantic comedy The Love Hypothesis, a film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s New York Times bestselling novel. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and MRC, this rom-com promises a delightful mix of humor, romance, and academic charm.
Directed by Claire Scanlon, known for Set It Up, the film follows Olive Smith (Reinhart), a biology PhD candidate, who enters a fake relationship with the brilliant yet intimidating professor Dr. Adam Carlsen (Bateman). Reinhart, who also executive produces alongside Hazelwood and Catherine Hagedorn, shared her excitement on Instagram, posting a photo in character as Olive Smith with the caption featuring the eyes, DNA, and heart emojis, tagged with #thelovehypothesis. The film’s production is underway, with Elizabeth Cantillon (Charlie’s Angels) as producer. Hazelwood expressed her thrill, stating, “I’m beyond honored that talents like Elizabeth Cantillon, Claire Scanlon, and Lili Reinhart are bringing their vision to this project.” The novel’s massive global following, published in 40 countries, and its origins as a Star Wars-inspired fanfiction add an intriguing layer to its adaptation.
