Gujarat Launches Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO) in GIFT City: India’s First State-Led AI Research Body Under PPP Model

In a historic move aimed at positioning India as a global powerhouse in artificial intelligence, the Government of Gujarat has granted in-principle approval for the establishment of the Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO) at GIFT City. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, is set to begin operations on January 1, 2026, making Gujarat the first Indian state to set up an AI research organization under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The launch of IAIRO marks a major milestone in India’s AI journey and aligns with the Union Government’s India AI Mission, reinforcing Gujarat’s leadership in emerging technologies.

The IPA represents 23 leading pharmaceutical companies, including Cipla, Sun Pharma, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, and others.
