LIK Review: Fresh Rom-Com or Same Old Formula?

Mumbai, April 10, 2026 – Tamil cinema’s latest sci-fi romantic comedy LIK: Love Insurance Kompany (also known as Love Insurance Kompany) hit theatres today, and it has already sparked mixed but mostly positive buzz among audiences, including the global Tamil diaspora.

Directed by Vignesh Shivan and starring Pradeep Ranganathan alongside Krithi ShettyS.J. SuryahYogi Babu, and others, LIK is a 2-hour-30-minute entertainer that blends romance, comedy, and futuristic sci-fi elements.

Plot Summary (No Major Spoilers)

The story revolves around a young man who strongly believes in old-school, traditional love. His life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Dheema (Krithi Shetty), a modern woman who trusts technology-driven romance. Their contrasting views on love lead to fun conflicts, especially when a powerful “Love Insurance” company and its CEO (played by S.J. Suryah) get involved.

The film introduces a clever futuristic gadget that allows time travel to the year 2035, adding a unique sci-fi twist to the usual boy-meets-girl formula.

NRI Review & Rating: 3.5/5

What Works Well:

  • Pradeep Ranganathan once again proves why he is one of the most loved young heroes in Tamil cinema. His natural comedy timing, charm, and energetic performance stand out. Krithi Shetty called him “magical” in recent interviews, and many viewers agree — he carries the film with ease.
  • The futuristic concept and time-travel angle feel fresh and entertaining, especially in the first half.
  • Anirudh Ravichander’s music and background score are a big highlight. Several songs are already trending among NRIs on YouTube and Instagram.
  • Light-hearted comedy, colourful visuals, and some smart takes on modern vs traditional relationships make it a fun weekend watch.
  • Good family-friendly entertainment with clean romance and humorous moments.

What Could Have Been Better:

  • The second half feels slightly predictable and stretched for some viewers.
  • While the sci-fi idea is interesting, the execution could have been deeper and more polished.
  • A few dialogues and situations follow the familiar Pradeep Ranganathan template seen in Love Today and Dude.

Overall NRI Verdict: LIK is a breezy, enjoyable sci-fi rom-com that works best if you go in expecting light entertainment rather than a mind-blowing masterpiece. It’s perfect for a fun theatre outing with family or friends. If you loved Pradeep’s previous films, you will likely enjoy this one too.

Rating: ½ (3.5/5) Best For: Families, youngsters, and anyone looking for a feel-good weekend entertainer with a futuristic touch.

Special Note for NRIs & Tamil Diaspora

  • The film is releasing widely in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries with Tamil subtitles.
  • Early overseas reactions are mostly positive, with many praising the comedy and visuals.
  • If you miss the old-school Tamil romantic comedies with a modern twist, LIK delivers decent masala.

Would we recommend watching in theatres? Yes — especially if you’re a fan of Pradeep Ranganathan or enjoy light sci-fi comedies. It’s a safe, entertaining pick for this weekend.

What NRIs are saying:

  • “Funny and refreshing concept!”
  • “Pradeep & Krithi chemistry is good, Anirudh BGM elevates the film.”
  • “First half is super, second half dips a bit but still worth watching.”
