Are you a high-performing problem solver with a passion for numbers, markets, and automation? Jane Street is hiring Quantitative Traders to develop and execute sophisticated algorithmic trading strategies in our Singapore office. We offer full Employment Pass (EP) sponsorship and a competitive relocation bonus for top global talent.

Singapore has emerged as a critical hub for quantitative finance and algorithmic trading in Asia. The city-state hosts over 1,400 financial institutions and is home to major trading firms, hedge funds, and fintech companies. Jane Street's Singapore office is at the epicenter of this ecosystem, providing direct access to Asian markets and a globally connected trading infrastructure.

About the Role

As a Quantitative Trader, you'll be immersed in fast-paced trading environments, collaborating with developers and researchers to create and refine real-time strategies. You'll make decisions in milliseconds—and learn from every one. Your work will span multiple asset classes, time horizons, and geographic markets, requiring both technical depth and adaptive thinking.

The role combines elements of research, engineering, and trading. You'll work with terabytes of market data, custom-built trading systems, and proprietary models developed by Jane Street's research teams. Success requires comfort with ambiguity, intellectual rigor, and the ability to iterate rapidly based on live market feedback.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with quantitative researchers, software engineers, and operations teams
  • Use custom trading systems, data tools, and in-house models
  • Continuously optimize strategies based on data, risk, and performance metrics

  • Participate in post-trade analysis and strategy refinement cycles

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar quantitative discipline
  • Exceptional problem-solving, numerical, and analytical skills
  • Strong programming experience in Python, C++, or functional languages
  • Prior experience in trading, hedge funds, statistical modeling, or quantitative research is a plus
  • Calm under pressure with a fast decision-making mindset
  • Eligible for or interested in Employment Pass sponsorship in Singapore
  • Willingness to relocate and adapt to a new financial ecosystem

  • Top-tier trading infrastructure and proprietary technology
  • Work in a collaborative, intellectually rigorous environment
  • Located in Singapore's Marina Bay – Asia's premier financial and fintech hub
  • Professional development and continuous learning opportunities

Why Singapore?

Singapore is one of the world's most attractive destinations for quantitative finance professionals. The city-state offers a tax-efficient environment, world-class infrastructure, and direct access to Asian markets. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) oversees the Employment Pass system, which provides a streamlined visa process for skilled professionals. Singapore's strategic location enables trading across Asian, European, and American markets with minimal latency.

The expat community is vibrant and well-established, with excellent schools, healthcare, and quality of life. Major financial institutions including Goldman Sachs, Citadel, Millennium Management, and Optiver maintain significant operations in Singapore, creating a competitive talent market and robust professional network.

  • Tax-friendly, finance-forward economy with global trading access
  • Vibrant expat community and world-class infrastructure
  • Strategic hub for Asian and global financial markets
  • Fast, straightforward visa process through the Singapore EP system
  • Strong regulatory framework overseen by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)

NRI and Indian-American Opportunity

This role presents a significant opportunity for Indian-American and NRI quantitative professionals. India has produced some of the world's leading quantitative traders and researchers, and the talent pipeline from Indian engineering and mathematics programs remains exceptionally strong. Many NRIs working in quantitative finance have successfully transitioned to Singapore-based roles, leveraging both their technical expertise and understanding of Asian markets.

For NRIs based in the United States on H-1B or other visa categories, Singapore offers an alternative career path without the visa uncertainty that characterizes the U.S. labor market. The Employment Pass system is merit-based and transparent, with clear salary thresholds published by the Ministry of Manpower. Additionally, Singapore's proximity to India facilitates easier travel for family visits and maintains stronger connections to the home country compared to Western locations.

Indian-American professionals with experience at top U.S. trading firms, hedge funds, or quantitative finance companies are particularly well-positioned for this role. Jane Street actively recruits from the Indian diaspora and values the analytical rigor and work ethic that characterizes this talent pool. The relocation bonus and housing support significantly reduce the friction of international relocation.
