Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Hits 180 kmph – Water in Glasses Stays Perfectly Still!

New Delhi, December 31, 2025 – In a remarkable feat of Indian engineering, the indigenous Vande Bharat Sleeper train has successfully achieved 180 kmph during high-speed trials, with a viral water-stability test showcasing its unmatched ride comfort and stability.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared an impressive video on social media capturing the trial on the Kota-Nagda section in Rajasthan, conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The highlight of the demonstration? Glasses filled to the brim with water – even stacked atop one another – did not spill a single drop as the train raced at top speed.

“Our own water test demonstrated the technological features of this new generation train,” Vaishnaw remarked, emphasizing the train’s advanced suspension system and minimal vibrations.

Vande Bharat Sleeper: India’s Next-Generation Long-Distance Train

The Vande Bharat Sleeper is a long-distance, overnight variant of the popular Vande Bharat Express, designed for operational speeds of up to 160 kmph. During trials, it was pushed to 180 kmph to test safety margins and passenger comfort.

Key Features:

  • Fully Air-Conditioned Coaches: AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier berths
  • Modern Amenities: Automatic doors, onboard WiFi, infotainment systems
  • Safety Systems: Indigenous KAVACH anti-collision technology
  • Enhanced Ride Comfort: Advanced suspension for smooth high-speed travel

Manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the train represents India’s commitment to self-reliant, world-class rail infrastructure under the Make in India initiative.

Commercial Launch and Future Plans

The successful trial brings the Vande Bharat Sleeper closer to its commercial rollout, set to operate on major long-haul routes such as:

  • Delhi-Mumbai
  • Delhi-Patna
  • Delhi-Kolkata (future expansions planned)

Indian Railways aims to induct over 200 sleeper trains in the coming years, drastically reducing travel time, enhancing passenger comfort, and modernizing India’s long-distance rail network.

Why This Milestone Matters

  1. World-Class Engineering: Demonstrates India’s ability to produce high-speed trains rivaling global standards.
  2. Passenger Safety and Comfort: Minimal vibrations, smooth acceleration, and stable ride at top speeds.
  3. Boost for Make in India: Entirely manufactured domestically, showcasing indigenous rail technology.
  4. Transforming Overnight Travel: Long-distance routes will now be faster, safer, and more comfortable.

The viral “water test” video has captured global attention, highlighting the train’s technological advancements and elevating India’s stature in modern railway engineering.
