Qualcomm Commits $150M to Boost India AI Startups
New Delhi, February 18, 2026 – Global chipmaker Qualcomm Incorporated has unveiled a major investment push into India’s thriving AI and technology startup ecosystem, pledging up to $150 million (around ₹1,360 crore) through its venture capital arm, Qualcomm Ventures. The announcement, made by Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon during his visit to New Delhi, aligns perfectly with the ongoing India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam.
The funds will be channeled via a dedicated Strategic AI Venture Fund, targeting startups at every stage of growth. Qualcomm’s focus remains on cutting-edge AI innovations in high-impact sectors: automotive, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, mobile technologies, edge computing, and on-device AI solutions. This emphasis on efficient, device-level AI is particularly strategic for India, enabling scalable, privacy-focused, and cost-effective applications that can reach millions without heavy cloud dependency.
Cristiano Amon emphasized the vision behind the move: “Through our new Strategic AI Venture Fund, Qualcomm is investing in companies that are advancing the next chapter of AI in India.” The company has a long-standing track record in the country, having backed more than 40 Indian startups since 2007—including notable names like MapMyIndia, ideaForge, Shadowfax, Cavli Wireless, SpotDraft, and ToneTag—offering not only capital but also technical expertise, semiconductor insights, and global market access.
This commitment arrives at a pivotal moment as India accelerates its journey to become a global AI powerhouse. With the India AI Impact Summit 2026 drawing top leaders from government, industry, and academia, Qualcomm’s pledge reinforces international confidence in India’s engineering talent, entrepreneurial spirit, and policy-driven push for responsible AI growth.
Qualcomm’s investments are expected to catalyze further innovation in edge AI, smart mobility, industrial automation, and affordable intelligent devices—key drivers for India’s digital economy and inclusive development.
