Sept 5–13, 2026 — The Preparation Week

Weekend of Sept 5–7 (7 days before)

  • Order eco-friendly clay idol online (Amazon, Etsy) if not already sourced — allow 3-5 days shipping.
  • Confirm HOA / apartment rules on any open flame + community immersion arrangements at your local temple.
  • Shop for puja supplies at Patel Brothers / India Bazaar: durva grass, red flowers (or silk), incense, ghee, camphor, kumkum, akshata, coconut, betel leaves + nuts, jaggery.

Weekdays Sept 8–13

  • Clean the puja room / altar area. Wash brass / silver items.

Days 6–10 (Sept 21–25)

  • Continue daily aarti with growing emotional connection as visarjan approaches.

Thursday, September 25 — Visarjan / Anant Chaturdashi

  • Morning final aarti with the whole family.
  • Evening bucket immersion at home (or community tank at temple).
  • Closing chant: "Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya."

Alternative Shortened Observances

Most NRI households cannot maintain a 10-day home mandapam. Traditional shorter options:

  • 1.5 days — Sthapana Day 1 morning; visarjan Day 2 afternoon. Simplest.
  • 3 days — Sthapana Day 1; visarjan on Day 3 (Sept 16).
  • 5 days — Sthapana Day 1; visarjan on Day 5 (Sept 18).
  • 7 days — Sthapana Day 1; visarjan on Day 7 (Sept 20 — a Sunday, ideal).

Family Roles by Age

  • Ages 3–6: Bell during aarti, placing flowers, holding the puja plate briefly.
  • Ages 7–10: Chanting simple mantras, plating naivedyam, opening/closing the mandapam curtain.
  • Ages 11–14: Full mantra recitation, reading the story of Ganesha, running the aarti flame safely.
