From RRR to the Golden Globes: Ram Charan

Mumbai / Los Angeles – December 9, 2025 The Golden Globe nominations for 2026 have just dropped, and desi hearts across the globe are beating faster! While Norway’s emotional family drama Sentimental Value (8 nominations) and HBO’s The White Lotus Season 3 (6 nominations) dominated the list, Indian and Indian-origin talent made the world take notice once again.

From Ram Charan earning his first-ever Golden Globe nod to Anushka Shetty creating history as the first Telugu actress to be nominated, the 83rd Golden Globes have given NRIs plenty of reasons to stay up on January 11, 2026.

Indian & Desi Highlights You Can’t Miss

  1. Ram Charan – Best Actor (Drama) The global superstar is officially in the Oscar conversation! Charan’s raw, career-best performance in S.S. Rajamouli’s Sentimental Value (a Norwegian-Indian co-production about a father-daughter reunion across continents) has earned him a nomination alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael B. Jordan. Fun fact: This is the first time a Telugu actor has been nominated in a major acting category at the Golden Globes.
  2. Anushka Shetty – Best Supporting Actress Sweety became the first actress from the Telugu industry to land a Golden Globe nomination for her heart-wrenching portrayal of a mother grappling with loss in the same film. NRIs in the US, UK, and UAE are already calling it “the proudest moment since RRR.”
  3. A.R. Rahman – Best Original Score The Mozart of Madras picks up yet another Golden Globe nomination for his haunting background score in Sentimental Value. If he wins, it will be his second Golden Globe after Slumdog Millionaire.
  4. Priyanka Chopra Jonas & Mindy Kaling – Double Nods
    • Priyanka is nominated as producer and supporting actress for the limited series The Girlfriend (Amazon Prime).
    • Mindy Kaling scores a writing nomination for The Studio (HBO Max), the sharp Hollywood satire starring Seth Rogen.
  5. Dev Patel – Best Director (First-Time Nominee) The British-Indian actor-filmmaker earns his maiden directing nod for the gritty immigrant drama No Other Choice, which also picked up Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) mention.
